the Borough Arms in Blackburn on Thursday December 2nd, 9.00pm. This came
up totally because of Fenny so we're sure gonna make it a kicker!!! The pubs

Gear get a track from the album played on BBC Radio
Lancashire's "On The Wire"! It was "Drunken Truck Driver"
and sounded cool on the radio. Fenny is championing us once again, we just are
not worthy mate. Mind you, thats probably because we have no pretentions at all
isn't it?

be so there.

Gary leaves and takes John with him. We are now a 3 piece.
Thanks for the last two years Gary, we'll miss you loads and you're always
welcome whatever happens. We have been rehearsing as a 3 piece more and more
recently and can continue with the gigs this way. Theres almost certainly going
to be a gig in October at a well known pub by the docks we've never played
before and this will be just the 3 of us. Experienced rhythm guitarists are
welcome to get in touch!

New singer John joins and the CD is finished!
"Second Gear" features the digitally mastered recordings made over two
recent sessions and is the best thing we've done yet. A new website has been
created just for Gear with some MP3 versions of these songs along with much more info on the band.
Check it all out at the Gear
website.

A cracking digital recording at Franks with totally live
takes. The core lineup recorded some top new gear material along with some of
the standards for live gigs.

Gear is born!
Having shorn off all connections with the Grand Junction
pub, plus lineup and musical changes too a name change was inevitable. The name
Gear means what you want it to but it certainly has a special meaning for us.
Lineup currently is Mark, Carl, Gary and Woody.

I
bloody hate Karaoke. See the entry on this list for 16th Jun 1998. Seems its our curse.
Rachel leaves Grand Junction in favour of reading out someone elses lyrics to an
autocue in a pub along with ten thousand others ;-) The live CD is done and
sounds ok though, check out the "sounds" area.

New singer Rachel joins Grand Junction after, err, one too
many non-appearances from Nobby. We learned 7 new songs and recorded our
versions over 2 sessions. Look out for the live CD out real soon now. A live Gig
with her is also in the pipeline.
Some of these MP3 recordings are up on The
Grand Junction website.

New year, new singer and smart new rehearsal joint at
"Franks". "Nobby" trials with Grand Junction as we bid Tony
farewell and sincere thanks for all his efforts last year. Its a shame Tony left
but we understand his new job takes priority now.

A Fruitcake Phenomenon has occurred!
Honourable
members "Big Andy" and "Dulcet Tones" both begin smart new jobs in the
new year. For Andy this is very special indeed and we're all really proud. Tone will be
working very close to a pub we don't like talking about very much at the moment. Mention
must also go to our old friend Dog who has had a pay rise and is most definitely heading
towards a computing job at his current place of work.
I'd love to work with computers too - they're the coming thing I'm told.

"Red and yellow
and pink and blue, orange and purple and green. I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, sing
a rainbow too". The invaders receive a heroes welcome on their triumphant return!
Details are sketchy at present but it appears that this time they didn't need to travel
too far from their abode at all. |

The
latest campaign to thwart the fruitcakes Amsterdam Odyssey was one of misinformation.
Dutch intelligence informed us there was a problem with the accommodation at the last
minute! Fortunately us wily old fruitcakes were wise to their ploy and we are back on
target. Unfortunately, however, it appears the exhaustive training required for this
mission was too much for brethren Charles (see below) and our contingent is now down to
just 6. Keep your end up in Berlin, Sir - you will be in our thoughts this coming weekend. |

Congratulations to
honourable brethren Charlie representing British Fruitcakes Abroad in Harlem, Holland. A
more fine, upstanding citizen simply does not exist. Lets work together on clearing the
Europeans image of us Brits being loud-mouthed drunkards who go on and on and on about
nothing but football all day. |

A
live Grand Junction CD is out! 14 tracks recorded on the 8th July 1998 in the pub cellar
complete with bloopers, howlers and the noise of the beer pumps in action (about the most
musical thing on it). Those crazy enough to want to actually hear this please drop me an
email and I'll see if theres a psychiatrist available. |

Clear the roads! Mark
Walmsleys become a lean, mean bikin' machine. Today "Dog" and his sturdy iron
horse became as one for the first time as he burned rubber 'round Blackburn. The Suzuki
dealer was most surprised when he did a wheelie out of the showroom through his plate
glass window but should have known better - theres a new hellraiser in town! |

The Amsterdam Invasion of Summer 1998
is official! Seven valiant crusaders, brave, strong and true, will embark upon their
mission during the first weekend of September. They are currently training hard at various
secret locations in order to sharpen the superhuman powers they will need to succeed. We
wish you well brave warriors : you country salutes you. |

The new official fruitcakes logo is here! The Order
of the Fruitcake is a great honour bestowed only upon those barmy enough to have
earned it. To include it in your webpage just copy the image from the main fruitcakes page
here on this site and include a link back to it. Remember though - you have to be
fruity to do it! |

Congratulations to
Martin on his Lombard contract! No-one deserves it more and I'm sure it will be a great
success. At last we can all sleep soundly knowing the millennium bugs will all be fixed

Paul Nagles concert at Jodrell Bank was well cool - a totally live performance
which had the audience bursting into spontaneous applause after some beautiful piano work.
This was Pauls first gig with his new band "Far from Stars" and on this nights
performance that won't be true for long! |
|
16th June 1998 |

Oh
no! The Grand Junction Clitheroe gig on July 4th has been cancelled. Apparently drunken
members of the public who have never sung before sound better than us and we've been
kicked out in favour of a karaoke machine. News of upcoming events will be posted here. |

Grand Junction play Glasson dock!
Cracking little number right by the waterside. Great
atmosphere enjoyed by all with no major hiccups. Sincere thanks to the
members of the public who grabbed the singers mike at the end of the set. We
really needed helping out there and it just wouldn't have been the same without
you ;-)
The band stayed over and had a great deal of merriment way
into the small hours. |
